THANK YOU VERY MUCH AYISOBA FOR NAILING IT, WITH ALL THE NOISE MADE IN THE MEDIA ABOUT GHANA MUSIC AND MUSICIANS, GHANA MUSIC IS NOT KNOWN OUTSIDE THE SHORES OF GHANA. NO FOREIGN RADIO OR TELEVISION STATION PLAYS GHANA MUSIC NO DOUBT THEY ARE POOR. GHANA MUSICIANS MUST LEARN TO WRITE, COMPOSE, ARRANGE AND PERFORM TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS. THEY MUST ALSO STOP MAKING MUSIC WHICH IS VERY LOCAL AND APPEAL TO LOCAL FANS, THEY MUST ASPIRE TO MAKE MUSIC FOR THE WORLD, SO THAT THEY CAN WIDEN THEIR MARKET TO GLOBAL REACH.PRESENTLY GHANA MUSIC IS ONLY GOOD FOR GHANAIANS. THE GHANA MARKET IS SMALL AND LEADS TO POVERTY FOR MOST MUSICIANS. TO THE MUSICIAN MUSIC IS BUSINESS, YOU ARE DOING IT FOR MONEY, PERIOD!

What does AYISOBA think of music ? Music is business ,and a very lucrative business for those who are serious and take it as business . Ayisoba IS IGNORANT IF HE THINKS IT IS BAD TO TREAT MUSIC AS A BUSINESS. At the same time he is crying Ghanaian music is not making it internationally, who does he expect to promote Ghanaian music outside the country if it is not a business? If you have a problem with CHARTER HOUSE for the way Ghana music awards is organized ,it is ok to talk about it to correct the anomaly ,but don't say people are doing business with music. Do you get paid when you perform or when your music is used anywhere? You did not learn anything from your tours. Playing at 46festivals in Europe should make you very rich, if you are not rich then you're a dummy or something is wrong with you. WISE UP.

It is the ravaging greedy obnoxious and excessive TWI songs that has ruined out reputation in this industry. Including TV and Radio programs.
Imagine people going to night clubs and all the hear for enjoyment is American Country Music. It will make you hate country. Ironically Hausa music is a more appealing genre of Ghanaian music, why these Northern boys lack confidence to market it I don't know. Apart from these Twi yappers, just like our Akan Pastors, all others are drowned out. Akans do not appreciate anything Ghanaian that is not TWI oriented, that is our dying problem. This guy is so right, but he said exactly what I have just written diplomatically. Twi music sucks. It is all copy cat versions of western sounds, with a monotonous flavor. Every single one of them sounds the same, noise not music, and all the singers have this pinched-throat syndrome.
Now you can shit in your dross or just deny these facts!!!

It's about time Ghana Music union looked at developing music which is authentically Ghanaian. I am not against change or evolution because that's the way things have been and will be when we are all gone but the fact is, King Ayisoba is very right that on the international stage you see no Ghanaian bands. The fact the Ebo Taylor, a man in his 70's, is still very much in demand shows that on the international stage you have to be able to play live and by that i don't mean singing to a backing track. In the UK I was at a festival in Liverpoool and was very surprised to see 4 out of the possible line up of 8 made up of bands playing music which has its roots in Ghana. I say i was surprised because it has never happened before and i go to a lot of festivals. It isn't as if we don't have musicans in Ghana who can make Ghanaians proud, we do but for some reason because they've decided to keep their clothes or have singing about conscious issues or are actually playing their instruments they do not get the right exposure. Check out Agorsor and you will see what i mean. Yes music is a business and as with any business you need a contingency plan. What is the plan for Ghanaian music. Is MUSIGA going to sit there until Ghanaian music vanishes from the international stage or will they actually try and develop it. Yes you have 'yappers' but let's be honest the only people who like it are the people who make them. Internationally 'yappers' cannot compete because it's not music that people associate with Ghana. The Sengalese, Malians and Gambians have their 'yappers' too but they make sure they don't export those. They export the likes of Baaba Maal, Salif Keita, Oumou Sangari and the late Ali Farka Toure.
Ghanaian music does get played in clubs in London , Europe and the US but it's Ghanaian music from the 70s. Hip-life does not even get a mention and that's not to say all hip-life is rubbish (the majority of it is rubbish). So the challenge is for MUSIGA to start developing music with authentic Ghanaian sounds and the rest of the world would notice.

Richmond, you are on point. The truth is, we have to develop our indigenous instruments for them to be acceptable internationally. Your Gambian, Senegalese and Malian examples were just what I was thinking about. I lived in Gambia over a decade and what I noticed about their music is a kind of uniqueness that we lack in our music. Roots music pays. Sadly we don't have that. Our hip life is of western background sound with twi lyrics and you expect that to hit on the international scene? We have a lot of work to do. Why IS Ayisoba going places? Is his rendition unique? Is his traditional instrument playing a role? I think that is the magic. Authentic palm wine music of old with some little present day instrumentation will do the trick.
