Better late than ever, however this only goes to show how less innovative some of our established public universities are.Unless I am wrong its already being done. Of course am aware of long distance Diploma in education being organized by UCC for primary/secondary school teachers.
University of Education and the University of Cape Coast could have introduced this course as a distance learning program over a two year period in view of the demand for teachers/lectures for our tertiary institutions.
It does not need to take NAFTI to introduce this, but well since they have conceptualized the idea, we give them the credit. I won't be surprised the other universities will take it up.
In UK and other parts of Europe it is obligatory to have Diploma in teaching/learning/higher education to qualify for a teaching position in the universities, if you do not have it before being hired, you are expected to take the course at least within three years of being hired.
