The day all you "pretenders" stop churning out that crap that you call music, Ghana music will have a new lease of life. You and collaborators at the radio stations are the ones who have destroyed Ghana music. Technology was invented to to help you do things faster and more efficiently. However, it has rather made you guys lazy, unimaginative and less creative. What is happening is that ones person experiments with a little idea and gets a little success. All of a sudden, everybody's rushing to do the same stuff. This saturates the terrain and brings about stagnation in the music industry. You guys have allowed foreign music styles and nuances to overshadow our own to the detriment of
our own. It is time to go back and do proper music that we can call our own. What pisses me off is the fact that the older musicians of repute are not helping the younger ones. There is no one to mentor the young ones. In fact, they have been atrophied and turned into statues. They are scared of being outdone by the young ones, so they have virtually rolled their mats and gone into "hiding". Let me stop here before I start tearing everybody involved in the music industry in Ghana into smithereens! I am very angry!

Hey bud,
You've hit this outta the ball park. Some of these"wanna-be" so-called rap artistes and producers have done the whole genre of authentic Ghanaian music a disservice, and I am angry.
They churn out crap and proceed to hilite/showcase it when the so-called Annual Ghana "Music" Rap or Hiplife Awards are staged.
How Ghanaian is the music when it comes to the winners over the past couple of years? Where were the the categories of the various genre? We have reduced our music to only hiplife, so to speak because they get the most airplay and recognition. We have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed to the detriment of our common good.
The clownish sponsors and organisers should stop and think vis a vis, what event they are putting up. Is either they do it right by bringing in all sorts of our music into categories or stop it entirely.
I am angry.
Gone are the days where any or every type of music had airplay irrspective of the genre- bosoe, borborbo, adenkum, nnwom kro, da nsuomu just to mention a few.
To be able to enforce it as is done most western countries before the renewal of radio station's licence to operate, there has got to be a percentage of airplay of some of the aformentioned genres of Ghanaian traditional music before the licence is renewed.
This would encourage the resurgence of the traditional and mainstream Ghanaian music and not the CRAP we hear day in and out.
This is what MUSIGA and the others in conjuction with other stakeholders should and must promote on our airwaves.
The question is, why should some of the old artistes even consider to bring rappers to record with it?

Frankly, I started recording rap songs I wrote myself in pidgin English way back in the early 2000s. Some of them you (Jayso) listened to yourself and was quite impressed thus coming forward with some advise and encouragement. But what did I get from the so-called media houses and their so-called DJs?
Massa, k) y3 twi ndwom na rappo twi na w'ayi de3 3nfa w) Ghana ha kraaaa ooo.
God for help wenna lame and too artistically-inclined media houses abreast ema selves and see how good a song would perform both on air and off air when given the chance to do so. Be it danceable or non- danceable.
Ayo, Jayso! Good piece here. Word Up!!!

THERE ARE NO MUSICIANS IN GHANA.IF THERE,YOU COUNT ONLY ON KOJO ANTWI,GYEDU BLAY AMBOLLEY,PAA KOFI YANKSON,JEWEL ACKAH AND THEIR KIND.THE LATTER-DAY SINGERS CALL THEMSELVES MUSICIANS BUT CANT READ A NOTE IN MUSIC.HOW SAD!WHAT THEY DO IS BRAINSTORMING.I KNOW BECOS I USED TO DO THAT WITH MY COLLEAGUES WHEN WE WERE IN SCHOOL WAY BACK IN THE 70'S DURING THE SCHOOLS MUSIC COMPETITIONS AT THE ARTS CENTRE.TODAY,INSTEAD OF MUSICIANS WE HAVE SINGERS WHO TRY TO PARADE THEMSELVES AS MUSICIANS.SEE,JUST SINGING DOES NOT MAKE YOU A MUSICIAN!!!ONE MUST BE ABLE TO READ MUSIC NOTES,COMPOSE AND ARRANGE MUSIC.JUST LIKE IN THE GHANAIAN FILM JOBS(I DONT THINK GHANA HAS A FILM INDUSTRY YET)GHANAIAN SINGERS AND HALF-BAKED OR UNTRAINED FILMMAKERS KEEP CHURNING OUT GARBAGE THEY CALL GHANAIAN FILM AND MUSIC AND ARE SO SO HAPPY WITH IT BECAUSE THERE ARE NO OTHER QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT TO APPRECIATE.WHY?IN THE LAND OF THE BLIND MEN,THE ONE-EYED MAN IS THE KING.IN GHANA EVERY GARBAGE IS GIVING A STANDING OVATION.HOW SAD!OUR ENTERTAINMENT CRITICS(DO WE HAVE ANY?) ARE INEXPERIENCED OR STOMACH-DIRECTED.WHERE IS THE REAL CRITICAL MASS TO CRITIQUE OUR ART FORMS?I BET THAT IF ANY OF OUR SO-CALLED ARTS CRITICS SHOULD READ THIS COMMENT HE/SHE WILL FEEL BAD BUT THE FACT IS THEY DONT KNOW WHT THEY DO AND SO ARTS CONSUMERS PERISH FROM THEIR (ARTS CRITICS)IGNORANCE OF LITERRAY AND ARTS APPRECIATION.THE CRITICS THINK ABOUT THEIR POCKETS(SOLI) AND DAMN THE CONSUMER.I KNOW BECAUSE I AM A JOURNALIST.AT THE MOMENT,WAHT WE HAVE IN GHANA ARE SMALL BOYS AND AND GIRLS WHO HAVE NO BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE OF ANYTHING IN THEIR FIELD OF THEIR SO-CALLED PROFESSION.THEY JUST WRITE OR TALK IMPULSIVELY,PRETENDING THEY KNOW.THAT,IS THE BANE OF THIS COUNTRY.AND IT IS COSTING US A LOT.BECAUSE A VERY CRITICAL APPRECIATION OF OUR ART FORMS SHOWS AN ABSOLUTE BASTARDISATION OF ENTERTAINMENT--PROFANITY IN FILMS AND MUSIC.THAT MAKES SAD ABOUT SOME OF THE COMMENTS I HAVE READ ON THIS ISSUE.IN ANY CASE,IF ANYONE,COMES ON STRONG WITH ANY NONSENSICAL ARGUMENT ,HE/SHE IS SIMPLY IGNORANT ,STUPID,PLEBEIAN,MYOPIC,NARROW-MINDED,PATHETIC,FOOLISH ETC,ETC ad valorem.
