Awura Abena Serwaa Ampaafe, wife of veteran Ghanaian rapper Tic Tac and co-owner of Gennix Pizza Restaurant and Grill, has expressed frustration over what she describes as rampant theft by some employees, stating that the experience has made running a business in Ghana extremely difficult.

Speaking in a video shared on social media, she recounted nearly two decades of operating the restaurant and claimed she has witnessed workers steal cash, food items, and even use company resources to cater for their romantic partners without paying.

“I have been operating a restaurant for about 18 years, and I have seen different types of thieves, especially females. There are those who receive Mobile Money into their phone instead of the company phone; there are those who steal chicken, fish, tomatoes, oil, rice, money, and so many things. It’s so difficult to operate a business in this country,” she said.

She added that some employees allegedly went as far as giving customers free meals because they were in relationships with them, while others prepared large quantities of food for their partners using the restaurant’s supplies.

“They start dating the customers and stop them from buying food and instead give it to them for free. One of the supervisors was cooking for a man she met; it wasn’t a small amount of food; it was a very large quantity. When a cashier also gets a boyfriend, she doesn’t allow him to buy food again. When the guy gives her GH¢20, she will give him a balance of GH¢180 as if he bought something and paid GH¢200,” she alleged.

Reflecting on her years in business, she said she never imagined women could engage in such levels of theft until she became a business owner, adding that she plans to write a book one day documenting her experiences.

“If I hadn’t opened a business, I wouldn’t know a woman could be a thief, a very serious thief. I will write a book one day and mention all their names because it’s sad. They know themselves,” she stated.

She questioned why some workers choose to steal from employers instead of working diligently and trusting that they would eventually be able to establish businesses of their own.

“Why can’t you pray to God to help you work hard and open your own business? Instead, you want to steal from another person’s business just to open yours. Later, I will come and show you guys how they steal. They said it themselves, and I know it,” she said.

Despite admitting that the situation sometimes makes her want to give up, she said she remains committed to the business because many people depend on her for support.

“Sometimes I just want to stop it all and just live, but it can’t happen like that because there are people who also depend on you. For someone like me, there are always people calling me for money; some would be sitting at my gate and all. I am able to help the few I can. Please tell me what I should do,” she appealed.
