Nigerian actor Ramsey Nouah has shared his observations about the differences between Accra and Kumasi, saying he found people in Kumasi to be more down to earth than those in the capital.
Speaking during an interview on Angel FM, the veteran actor compared Ghana’s two largest cities to Nigeria’s Lagos and Abuja, noting that each has a distinct vibe.
According to Ramsey Nouah, Accra reminds him of Abuja, where people are perceived to enjoy wealth and project a “big boy” lifestyle, while Kumasi feels more like Lagos, a city he described as being driven by hustlers and entrepreneurs.
Ramsey Nouah recounts how a Ghanaian female fan left an interesting item in his pocket
“Lagos is the hustlers’ place. Abuja is the people that are eating and enjoying the big money, and they act like they are the big boys. Lagos are more like the entrepreneurs. It feels like the same thing here. So Accra is like the big boys, but Kumasi is like hustlers, entrepreneurs and all those things,” he said
He said his experience in Kumasi left him with the impression that residents are more humble and approachable.
“People are more down to earth here than in Accra. That’s what I noticed,” he noted
To illustrate his point, he pointed out how the interviewer in Kumasi had suggested taking one of their colleagues out for a local meal of fufu, while someone in Accra might opt for a more upscale restaurant.
“You want to take my sister to eat fufu; now in Accra they won’t take her to eat fufu, they’ll take her to an expensive place like La Chaumière,” he pointed out
His comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with many Ghanaians weighing in on whether his comparison accurately reflects the personalities and lifestyles associated with Accra and Kumasi.
“Accra is more like a place for the big boys, but Kumasi is for hustlers and entrepreneurs. People are more down-to-earth in Kumasi than in Accra.”
