Ghanaian musician Abochi Music has opened up about the financial challenges involved in producing and promoting music, revealing that an artiste may need at least GH₵100,000 to shoot a professional music video.
Speaking in an interview on Atinka TV on August 13, 2026, Abochi explained that the cost goes beyond filming, with artistes having to spend heavily on costumes, styling, props, sets, dancers and other creative elements.
“To be honest, music is expensive. If you want to shoot a professional video, the least amount you will spend will be like GH₵100,000,” he said.
According to him, artistes often have to change costumes several times during a video shoot, while also paying stylists and other professionals to ensure that the visuals meet the desired standard.
“Your costuming, the stylist and we change costumes like four to five times and we also have to be artistic about them,” he explained.
Abochi noted that some music videos require the production team to create entire artistic settings from scratch, including securing props and other materials needed to bring the concept to life.
“Some of the videos, we have to create the art from scratch, bring your own props and other stuff to be able to achieve the kind of setup you want,” he stated.
He cited one of his own projects as an example, revealing that the video for a wedding song on his album required the creation of an entire wedding setup.
“I have a wedding song on my album and when I shot the video for the song, it cost me a lot. I had to create a whole wedding setup from the beginning, get costumes for bridesmaids and groomsmen, pay the DJ and also get multiple outfits,” he shared.

The musician mentioned that the expenses do not end with the production of a music video, as recording, mixing and mastering the actual song also require significant financial investment.
“Apart from that, creating the music itself is another. Going to the studio to record, mixing and mastering also costs. After that, the main thing is the promotion and marketing,” he noted.
Abochi further pointed out that artistes may spend between GH₵50,000 and GH₵200,000 on a single project, depending on the scale and professionals involved.
“If an artiste charges you GH₵50,000 to GH₵200,000, just one project can exhaust the money. These are the challenges because it’s expensive,” he said.
Beyond the cost of producing music, Abochi advised musicians to establish alternative sources of income, particularly as their careers grow.
He explained that artistes who become popular may find it difficult to maintain conventional employment because of the demands of their careers.
“Most of the time, when you’re a musician and you gain some popularity, you can’t just do any other work. You can’t work in any organisation and that’s why it’s advisable to get a side business,” he stated.
According to him, musicians do not necessarily have to personally manage such businesses but should consider investing in ventures that can generate additional income.
“You don’t necessarily have to be the one to run the business, but it should be something you’ve invested your money in so that you can be getting something on the side too,” he added.
