Broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi has shared the story of how he first met actress Nana Ama McBrown, revealing that her confidence behind the wheel of heavy-duty vehicles left a lasting impression on him long before they became close.

Speaking during an interview with McBrown on Peace FM, Kwame Sefa Kayi recalled meeting the actress on a movie set in Kumasi around 2004 or 2005 when she was still a young actress.

According to him, he noticed a young lady sitting on a motorbike and wondered whether she was capable of riding it.

“I saw a very young girl on a motorbike and I was wondering if she was going to move it. I asked Morro who she was and he told me it was Nana Ama McBrown. Right then she started the bike and rode off. It was late in the evening,” he recounted.

He said he was even more surprised the following day when he saw McBrown driving a tipper truck loaded with sand.

“At the time the only big car I had driven was a pickup truck. I looked at her quietly and thought she had her own challenge because it wasn’t common at the time,” he said, referring to how unusual it was to see a young woman driving such a heavy vehicle.

Kwame Sefa Kayi further disclosed that years later, he became close friends with a man named Kofi McBrown after meeting him on Spintex Road.

He said it was during one of their conversations that he discovered Kofi McBrown was the actress’ father.

“One day he told me Nana Ama was his daughter. I asked if it was that feisty girl, and he asked if I knew her. I said yes, I knew her, and the rest was history. That is the beautiful girl sitting across from me today,” he added.

Responding to the story, McBrown revealed that around the time Kwame Sefa Kayi first saw her, she had already been driving trucks for about six years, having started in 1998.

She explained that transporting spare parts to Côte d’Ivoire was her business before acting opened new doors for her.

“The time you saw me, I had been driving the truck for about six years. I started driving in 1998. That was my business. I used to take spare parts to Côte d’Ivoire to sell,” she said.

McBrown added that her driving skills unexpectedly became an advantage in the movie industry because very few women could drive at the time.

“That is how I got the advantage into acting because when I joined, a lot of the women didn’t know how to drive. I got my first role through driving, and I used to show off with that skill. Before they wrote the script, they already had me in mind to play those roles,” she explained.
