‘Wait 8 years before comparing NDC’s comedy record to NPP’ - DKB tells Lekzy

DKB says comparing the NDC’s two years to NPP’s eight years is unfair DKB says comparing the NDC’s two years to NPP’s eight years is unfair

Ghanaian comedian DKB has asserted that his colleague Lekzy DeComic should have waited for the current NDC administration to complete 8 years in office before comparing its record in the comedy industry to the past NPP government.

DKB was reacting to comments by Lekzy DeComic that the previous NPP administration paid more attention to comedians than the current government.

However, in a post shared on Instagram, DKB noted that although he believes Lekzy did not mean any harm with his comments, he thinks the assessment would have been more balanced if it were made after the NDC had also spent eight years in government, just as the previous administration did.

He stressed that it would be unfair to compare the NDC’s less than two years in office to the previous government’s eight-year tenure.

“I believe that Lekzy didn’t mean any harm. But what I think Lekzy should have done right was to also wait for 8 years to pass for NDC, so he can make a very balanced statement. So because NPP did 8 years, but NDC is in two years or less than two years. It would not be fair to judge two years compared to an eight-year period,” DKB said.

DKB said he would personally ensure that Lekzy assesses the government’s support for the creative industry after the NDC has completed its eight-year tenure, expressing confidence that the current administration would ultimately come out on top.

He explained that, in his view, the NDC pays attention to everyone and has so far provided the highest financial allocation to the creative arts.

“NDC guys, forgive, calm down. I will make sure on NDC’s eighth year in government, he will judge both and they will see which one will come out on top. Because I know of course NDC will come out on top. NDC pays attention to everybody.

“It’s a socialist government, Marxist theory. Everybody’s involved. So far I think the highest financial allocation for creative art has been this NDC government,” he said.

However, DKB also acknowledged and applauded the work done by the previous administration at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), particularly under the leadership of Akwasi Agyemang, whom he described as his former boss.

According to him, the authority did tremendous work during that period and was responsive to the concerns of people within the creative industry.

“And that notwithstanding, big ups to the previous tourism authority headed by my former boss, did tremendously well. I think that was one of the ministries that was very, very responsive to our concerns. That’s my former boss. You did very well,” he noted.
