Ghanaian comedian General Ntatia has pushed back against the perception that players in the entertainment industry only come together during funerals, insisting that many entertainers quietly support one another away from the public eye.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu on the sidelines of the funeral of actress Beverly Afaglo, the comedian acknowledged that while there is room to strengthen relationships within the industry, colleagues often check on each other without seeking publicity.

“I believe strongly that we do support each other in our own small way. When we are going to visit ourselves, there are no cameras around, so people don’t see it,” he said.

General Ntatia, however, encouraged entertainers to make a conscious effort to reconnect with colleagues they have not heard from in a long time.

“If it’s an actor or actress that is your colleague that you’ve not heard from for a very long time, just go and look out for the person. We don’t know what might be going on,” he advised.

Reflecting on his memories of Beverly Afaglo, the comedian described the late actress as a dedicated professional who was always willing to help others.

He recalled casting her in the stage play A Man in the Dark despite her initial hesitation because she had never performed on stage before.

According to him, Beverly exceeded all expectations and delivered a performance that made it difficult to believe she was making her stage debut.

“She was the lead character, and she killed the role. As I’m talking right now, I’m picturing her stage movements and directions as if she were a professional on stage. That’s what I remember her for. She was very dedicated to her work,” he said.

General Ntatia also said Beverly’s passing serves as a reminder for entertainers to prioritise their health and cherish one another while they have the opportunity.

“I think one thing that we have to do is check our health regularly and also love each other,” he said.

He urged industry players to live purposefully, remain united and, as a Christian, encouraged people to stay close to God while giving their best in whatever they do.

“This is our moment. This is the time that we have to be here. Let’s spend it well and hold each other very well,” he added.
