Ghanaian former actor and leader of Timothy Bentum Ministries, Timothy Bentum, has criticised the decision to hold the New Patriotic Party (NPP) demonstration on a day designated for the nation to mourn and honour the eight people who died in a military helicopter crash while on national duty.

In a Facebook post, Timothy Bentum acknowledged that peaceful demonstrations are a constitutional right but argued that the timing of the protest could have been reconsidered in view of the significance of the day.

“Peaceful demonstrations are a constitutional right, and no one is saying they are wrong,” he wrote.

However, he said he believed greater national unity and respect would have been demonstrated if the protest had been held after the national mourning activities.

“At times like this, our leaders, whether in government or in opposition, should put Ghana first. Moments of national tragedy should bring us together, not divide us,” Timothy Bentum stated.

He further called on political leaders to join the country in honouring those who lost their lives, stressing that such a gesture would have demonstrated solidarity with the bereaved families and the wider Ghanaian public.

“Joining the nation to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice would have sent a powerful message of solidarity to their families and to all Ghanaians,” he added.

Timothy Bentum concluded by praying for the souls of the deceased and urging Ghanaians and political leaders to prioritise the national interest over partisan politics.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may we always place the interest of our nation above politics,” he said.
