American rapper ASAP Rocky has paid an emotional tribute to his longtime partner and mother of his children, Rihanna, describing her as a “strong Black woman” who has consistently stood by him during some of the most difficult moments of his life.
Speaking on the BET Digital podcast, ASAP said Rihanna’s unwavering support, not her fame or fortune, is what made their relationship special.
“One thing I can say about my woman that people don’t know, she a real ass bitch, bro. She’s not one of these Hollywood motherf*****s. She really is a strong Black woman. She held me down even when I was at my lowest,” he said.
When asked how he transitioned from his former playboy lifestyle to settling down with one person and building a family, ASAP explained that Rihanna’s loyalty and presence during his darkest times set her apart.
“There wasn’t really no other, bro, that could match me… It ain’t got nothing to do with her accolades or her money,” he said.
The rapper recalled several defining moments in his life where Rihanna was by his side, including the death of his father, his 2019 arrest in Sweden, and other personal challenges.
ASAP Rocky dismisses claims of being insecure about Rihanna's wealth
“The truth of the matter is when my dad died she was there for me. When I got locked up in Sweden, she was there for me… Every time I’m at my lowest, darkest place, whether we were just friends, platonic, or we were in a relationship, she has always been there for me, bro. Genuinely,” he shared.
ASAP also recounted an emotional memory from the day his debut album reached number one on the charts, a moment that coincided with the death of his father on Christmas Day.
According to the rapper, he was alone in a hotel bathroom in Paris, overwhelmed with grief, when Rihanna unexpectedly called to congratulate him. Neither of them knew the other was in the French capital at the time.
“My first album went number one. My dad died on Christmas. I was on my bathroom floor in Paris crying. She called me for some reason to congratulate me. We both were in Paris. I didn’t know she was in Paris; she didn’t know I was in Paris,” he recalled.
After he stopped answering his phone, Rihanna tracked him down and came to check on him.
“I don’t even know how Rihanna got the key to my room. I stopped answering my phone. She walked right in. ‘You good? Talk to me.’ That really was my friend, bro. That’s really my bro, like for real,” Rocky said.
