Ghanaian actor and staunch New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter Prince David Osei has declared that the voices of Ghanaians cannot be silenced as the party stages its "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration on August 6.

In a post shared on social media ahead of the demonstration, Prince David Osei said the party's quest is for a true democracy where citizens can freely exercise their constitutional rights without fear of intimidation or arrest.

"Our voices will never be silenced. We are not afraid. True democracy is what we seek as a nation—enough of the intimidation and arrests of citizens for exercising their constitutional rights. Ghana, wake up! Stand up for justice, freedom, and the principles that unite us," he wrote.

According to the NPP, the demonstration is aimed at defending the rule of law, constitutional governance and democratic accountability.

The party says the protest is intended to spotlight what it describes as growing threats to Ghana's democratic principles under the current administration.

The "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration forms part of the NPP's campaign against what it describes as increasing political persecution, selective justice and the abuse of state institutions under the current administration.

According to the party, the protest seeks to draw public attention to several issues it believes pose a threat to Ghana's democratic credentials.

Among the concerns raised by the NPP is the acquittal and discharge of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu. The party argues that the development raises serious questions about the consistency and impartiality of the country's justice system.

The NPP is also protesting what it describes as the arbitrary arrest, detention and alleged harassment of several of its members by state investigative and security agencies.

The party contends that these actions are politically motivated and intended to intimidate members of the opposition.

Thousands of party supporters, sympathisers and executives from across the country are expected to participate in the demonstration, which is scheduled to begin at the forecourt of the Supreme Court in Accra.
