There is no stage in a child’s life where it becomes too late to make a positive difference, according to Specialist Paediatrician Dr Sharron Makafui Aglobitse.

Responding to a question on whether children ever reach a point where their mental, emotional, or physical wellbeing can no longer be changed, she rejected the idea entirely, emphasizing that help is always possible regardless of age or circumstance.

“There is no giving up. At every point in time, everyone can be helped,” she said. “It just depends on who can help the person at a point in time.”

At Convergence of Mothers, she explained that while parents often try their best to manage behavioural, developmental, or emotional challenges on their own, there are situations that require additional expertise and shared responsibility.

According to her, recognising this need is not a weakness, but an important step in effective care.

Dr Aglobitse noted that some challenges can be complex and overwhelming, making it necessary for parents to seek external support when needed.

“There are times that experience is just something you cannot handle yourself and you need to invite someone else in,” she explained, pointing to pediatricians, psychologists, counsellors, and other professionals as part of a wider support system available to families.

Her remarks reinforced the importance of early intervention and collaboration in child development, stressing that no child is beyond help when the right support structures are engaged at the right time.
