Ghanaian gospel singer Obaapa Christy has disclosed that several emerging gospel musicians in Ghana perform her songs at gospel programmes and across different platforms without first asking for her consent.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz in August 2, 2026, the gospel singer said she understands why younger artistes do this, adding that, she and her contemporaries also depended on songs by established gospel ministers when they were starting.

She explained that the major difference was that musicians of her generation had very few platforms available to showcase their talent.

“Many young musicians use my songs without permission. Back then, when we sang other people’s songs in church, we only had radio and television, and even those platforms were limited.

“Things have changed today, but does that mean you have to have people arrested just because they sang your song? We also sang other people’s songs before we got to where we are today,” she explained.

Obaapa Christy noted that, for this reason, she does not believe in pursuing or confronting young musicians who choose to perform her songs.

“If social media had existed during our time, I’m sure many musicians from our generation would also have used other people’s songs to grow their platforms,” she said.

She further stated that a number of musicians have leveraged her songs to grow their YouTube channels and other social media platforms, enabling them to gain followers and expand their reach.

“Some of them are even earning a living from the numbers they’ve built using my songs, and I don’t see that as a bad thing. God has a way of blessing all of us,” she clarified.

Meanwhile, Obaapa Christy will host the 2026 edition of Royal Praise on August 9, 2026, at UPSA in Accra.

This year's event will feature performances from colleague singers such as Empress Gifty, Joyce Blessing, Uncle Ato, Celestine Donkor, Akesse Brempong and Kwaku Gyasi.
