Media personality Mona Gucci has described Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale as a “god of African music” following reports that some attendees fainted during his ShattaFest UK concert in London during a stampede.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, Mona Gucci argued that similar incidents had happened at concerts by international stars such as Michael Jackson, where fans fainted during performances, yet the late pop icon was celebrated as one of the greatest entertainers of all time.
She questioned why a similar occurrence at a Shatta Wale concert was being linked to poor event organisation rather than being viewed as a sign of the musician’s influence.
She went on to label Shatta Wale as the first African artiste to trigger a “stampede” in the diaspora, describing him as a highly revered figure in African music.
“People fainted at Michael Jackson’s concerts many years ago n Michael was labeled the GOAT of entertainment in the world BUT when it’s same at my son SHATTA WALE’s concert they said it’s a poor organizational skills…!

Her comments come after ShattaFest UK, which was held in collaboration with Ghana Party in the Park, was cancelled on August 1, 2026, after police halted the event at Copthall Playing Fields in London following a crowd crush.
Reports from the venue indicated that police intervened after the number of attendees exceeded the approved capacity, leading to severe overcrowding, particularly around one of the entrances. The congestion reportedly resulted in a stampede, leaving several people injured.
Organisers initially informed patrons that the interruption was temporary and that efforts were underway to restore order. However, they later announced that the event had been officially cancelled due to safety concerns.
A police officer addressing the crowd explained that the decision was taken in the interest of public safety after “quite a lot of people” were injured during the incident.
Following the cancellation, Shatta Wale’s management expressed regret over the situation, extended sympathies to those affected, and stated that it was cooperating with ongoing investigations into the incident.
