Ghanaian musician Deborah Vanessa, popularly known as Sister Derby, has shared her belief that heaven and hell are experiences that exist on earth rather than places people go after death.

Speaking with streamer BiigMike, the “Uncle Obama” hitmaker explained that, to her, being in places like Seychelles or Mauritius with a well-funded bank account feels like heaven.

On the other hand, she said if she wanted to experience hell, she would go and live in either Agbogbloshie or Fadama, communities in Accra, because of the harsh living conditions.

“I believe Seychelles and Mauritius, with my bank account packed, are heaven. If I want to experience hell right now, I will go to Agbogbloshie or Fadama and live there. Heaven is on earth. Hell is also on earth,” she said.

She explained that she considers living in Agbogbloshie and Fadama to be like living in hell because of the level of pollution and the health risks residents face.

“It’s like living in hell because you are suffering. It’s full of pollution, and you can get cholera and typhoid,” she explained.

The Ghanaian musician and advocate also spoke about the Gambaga Witches’ Camp, which is known for housing women and young girls accused of witchcraft.

According to her, many of the women sent there are actually intelligent and knowledgeable individuals, particularly in the use of herbs, but are often misunderstood and labelled as witches because of deeply rooted traditional beliefs and gender biases.

“The women or girls who are taken there are taken there because they are too intelligent and too wise. They are like feminists, and traditionally, because men do not really see women as equals, they don’t like that. So they say the women are witches, but these are women who know how to pick herbs,” she added.
