Akosua Serwaa, the widow of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has opened up about her early experiences living outside Ghana, particularly her journey in Germany.

In an interview with Adwoa Saah aired on August 1, 2026, Akosua Serwaa disclosed that adjusting to life in Germany was challenging at the beginning, but she remained hopeful and relied on her faith to overcome the difficulties.

She explained that life was not easy when she first moved there, but with time, things gradually improved.

“It is very difficult in the beginning. It wasn’t easy, but by God’s grace, we will make it,” she said.

When asked whether some of her Ghanaian friends who lived in Germany with her had returned to Ghana, Akosua Serwaa said most of them did not come back but relocated to other countries, including Netherlands, Belgium, and Britain, mainly because of the language.

“Back to Ghana? No. Many of them went to the Netherlands, while others moved to Belgium and Britain because of the language,” she said.

She further explained that learning the German language was one of the biggest challenges she faced because it was necessary for everyday activities, including shopping, work, and general communication.

According to her, it took her a long time to become fluent in the language.

Akosua Serwaa is widely recognised as the first and long-standing wife of the late Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

She shared a decades-long relationship with the music legend and played a huge role in his early career, including helping to finance and produce his breakthrough project, “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuom,” alongside Nana Acheampong in the late 1980s.

The marriage produced several children over a period spanning more than three decades. Akosua Serwaa has been residing in Germany since 2004 while managing aspects of her family life.
