Family, friends and sympathisers are gathering at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region for the funeral of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, despite a High Court injunction.

The mourners, dressed in the traditional Ghanaian funeral colours of red and black, began arriving at the venue on the morning of July 30, 2026. Security personnel from the Ghana Police Service have also been deployed to the funeral grounds as preparations continue ahead of the burial.

Some sympathisers arrived in groups aboard chartered commercial buses, while others made their way to the venue individually to pay their final respects to the renowned spiritual leader and inventor.

The gathering comes amid uncertainty over whether the funeral will proceed after an Accra High Court granted a 10-day interim injunction restraining former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo from going ahead with the funeral arrangements, pending the determination of a legal dispute.

The dispute centres on the organisation of Apostle Safo’s funeral, with reports indicating that his final will entrusted custody of his body and responsibility for organising his burial to his son, Akofena.

Despite the court order, activities at the funeral grounds remained brisk, with organisers continuing preparations while mourners kept arriving.

Scores of relatives, friends and sympathisers have gathered at Gomoa Mpota to honour the memory of the late founder.

Police personnel from the Winneba Divisional Police Command have also been deployed to the venue to maintain law and order as uncertainty remains over the possibility of unrest due to the disagreement between factions of the family.

However, former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has maintained that the funeral will go ahead regardless, insisting that extensive preparations have already been made and huge costs have been incurred towards the burial arrangements.
