'Breaking houses won't solve anything' - Kwaw Kese on Accra flooding

Hiplife legend Kwaw Kese has waded into the ongoing conversation about Accra's perennial flooding crisis, insisting that demolishing homes is not the solution.

In a post on X on June 4, 2026, the musician offered an explanation for why the capital floods so severely, arguing that the problem is structural and not the fault of residents whose homes are being torn down.

"Accra is surrounded by mountains and faced by the sea. When it rains, the water from the mountains has to flow to the sea, but due to the lack of proper drainage systems, the water can't flow into the sea. So what happens? FLOOD," he wrote.

What GhIE President said about recurrent Accra floods

Kwaw Kese called on the government to channel its energy into building functional drainage systems, dredging gutters and waterways, and ensuring they connect properly to the sea, rather than uprooting families from their homes.

"Breaking people's houses and homes won't solve anything. Consider building drainage systems, dredging our gutters and waterways, and connecting them to the sea," he stated.

The musician also warned that without meaningful action, the cycle would simply repeat itself.

"Next year by this time, we will be seeing the same videos circulating and hearing the same cries, and innocent people's homes will go down, and we would be facing the same problems," he cautioned.

Kwaw Kese’s comments come as many parts of the country, especially Accra, faced devastating floods that destroyed properties across the city after heavy rains on June 3, 2026.
