Ghanaian businessman and social media personality Abu Trica has shared his version of the events leading to his arrest, claiming he was handcuffed and detained for more than 12 hours while security personnel searched his apartment in Accra.

Speaking in an interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV on June 3, 2026, Abu Trica, real name Frederick Kumi, said the operation began on the morning of December 11, 2025, at one of his apartments in Airport Residential Area.

According to him, he was with some friends when officers from the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service, accompanied by personnel from the Narcotics Control Commission, arrived at the property with a warrant.

"It happened on the morning of December 11, 2025. My boys and I were in one of my apartments at Airport Residential. We heard a knock at the gate and when we opened it, it was personnel from the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service and some personnel from Narcotics," he recounted.

12 Hours, 3 Teams: Inside the operation that led to Abu Trica's arrest

Abu Trica said the officers informed him that they had a warrant to search the premises and arrest him over allegations of cyber fraud.

He claimed that when he questioned the basis for the operation, one of the officers showed him a TikTok video allegedly depicting him displaying large sums of cash.

"When I enquired why I was being searched, one of them showed me a TikTok video depicting me flaunting stacks of cash and asked where the money was," he said.

The businessman, however, denied owning the account or posting the video.

"I told them I never posted such a video. I am not on TikTok and that account in particular was fake. They still didn't believe me," he stated.

Abu Trica further alleged that he and his friends were handcuffed and made to sit in the apartment throughout the extensive search operation.

"They handcuffed me and made me sit for over 12 hours while they searched the entire apartment. The video people saw of me and my friends seated on the couch, handcuffed, we were like that from 9 a.m. in the morning to 9 p.m.," he claimed.

He also alleged that officers prevented him from contacting legal representation during the operation.

"Even when I asked to call my lawyer, they did not allow me and rather took offence," he said.

The comments are the latest public remarks by Abu Trica regarding the high-profile fraud and extradition case that has attracted attention in Ghana and abroad.

He has consistently denied wrongdoing and has challenged allegations linking him to an international romance-fraud and money-laundering network.
