Kakalika dance originated in Nima in 2012 - Asamoah Gyan Reveals

Asamoah Gyan said he met the originator of the dance of the song by DopeNation Asamoah Gyan said he met the originator of the dance of the song by DopeNation

Long before DopeNation's "Kakalika" became a global phenomenon, a young man from Nima was already doing that dance, and Asamoah Gyan has the receipts.

The former Black Stars captain, in a Channel One TV interview, has thrown a spotlight on the unknown originator of the now-iconic dance.

He revealed that he first encountered the moves as far back as 2012, more than a decade before the song took the world by storm.

"I remember in 2012, he was doing that dance. I posted him on my page when I was at Legon City FC," Gyan disclosed.

He added that the song led him straight to a community in Accra.

"One of the guys said that the guy who I posted is in Nima. So, I went to Nima to see him,” he added.

DopeNation, the identical twin duo of B2 and Twist, are the undisputed owners and originators of the "Kakalika" track, which dropped in late 2025 and quickly exploded into a global trend.

Gyan, however, noted that the dance that amplified the song's viral reach belongs to someone else entirely, and he believes that person deserves recognition and compensation.

"The kudos has to go to the originator; the boy who created the dance. The song is everywhere, a good song… but that dance was on him. So, at least we have to compensate that boy," Gyan said.

While Asamoah Gyan did not provide the name of the individual, users online have pointed to a dancer on TikTok identified as Agaya Sexy Dancer.
