Musician King Paluta has raised concerns over the ill-treatment of artistes by the digital streaming platform Boomplay.
On April 7, 2026, Boomplay shared a list on its X page showing the top ten most streamed Ghanaian artistes on the platform for the first quarter of 2026.
The “Makoma” hitmaker reacted after placing sixth on the list, questioning the value of the high streaming numbers, as he claims artistes do not receive payment for their streams on the platform.
“Yes, but no money! You people are taking us for granted and it’s sooo wrong! @BoomplayMusic!!!” he wrote.
King Paluta’s call-out of the digital streaming platform is not an isolated case, as music duo Lali X Lola also petitioned the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, over what they describe as unpaid royalties from Boomplay.
In their petition dated May 19, 2025, the artistes claim they have not received any revenue from streams of their music on the platform since April 2023.
They noted concerns over the lack of transparency and accountability, adding that their repeated efforts to seek clarification from Boomplay have gone unanswered.
The duo is calling on the minister to launch an investigation into the matter and to put in place proper regulatory measures for all digital service providers (DSPs) operating in Ghana’s digital and creative industries.
“Despite repeated attempts to engage the platform to resolve this issue, there has been consistent unresponsiveness and non-payment, which raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and fair compensation for Ghanaian artistes,” part of the statement read.
