Public reactions have been divided amid Ghana’s ongoing debate over whether the LGBTQ+ bill should be prioritised, following the president’s recent comments to civil society organisations (CSOs) that the country is facing more pressing issues.

In a recent interview on JoyNews, the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, also stated that the government’s focus is currently on critical socio-economic challenges, adding that LGBTQ+ issues do not rank highly among the priorities of ordinary Ghanaians.

Reacting to his statements, broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah criticised the minister’s position.

In a post shared on X on April 7, 2026, she argued that the current stance is unacceptable, pointing out that LGBTQ+ issues had clearly been treated as a priority in the past.

Nana Aba further stated that if LGBTQ+ matters were not considered a national priority, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would not have included them in its campaign.

“LGBTQ+ issues shouldn’t have been prioritised ahead of the elections either. The issues you’re calling priorities now have always been priorities,” she said.
