Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse Productions, Robert Klah, has revealed that conversations are ongoing about the possible introduction of an AI-generated song category in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on April 1, 2026, Robert Klah explained that the scheme’s decision to introduce new categories largely depends on trends within the music industry.
According to him, when a particular style or category of music gains widespread popularity, it naturally draws the attention of the board for possible inclusion.
“Our scheme has two specific areas that I can think of right now. The first part has to do with if there’s a general popularity in a particular category. Example, this year, if we have x number of AI-related songs released by a certain number of people and it’s banging, then it's going to cause the board to want to have it in there,” he said.
He further noted that beyond popularity, the technical evolution of music also plays a role in shaping decisions on category additions.

“If x number of songs from the technical angle have been released, then it will cause the board to begin to think about what it means for incorporation. Usually, it’s supposed to come from the system. The system produces it, we would respond because we have to be ready for it,” he stated.
Robert Klah disclosed that although there have been preliminary discussions about introducing a category for AI-generated songs, no final decision has been made yet due to limited data.
“There have been slight conversations about the possibilities of introducing a category for AI-generated songs. Nothing is firmed up because we don’t have full data available, so it’s when you have full data that you will be able to make concrete decisions,” he explained.
He emphasised that the music space continues to evolve rapidly, making it necessary for award schemes to remain flexible and responsive to emerging trends.
“The space is dynamic, so you always have to be on the lookout for what’s happening and what’s changing,” he added.
