Ghanaian rapper Kweku Flick has revealed the deliberate strategy he used early in his career to establish his identity in the music industry.

Speaking on The Delay Show with host Deloris Frimpong Manso, the “Money” hitmaker explained that he intentionally invested in music videos and media interviews to help audiences connect his face to his music.

According to him, when he first began releasing songs, many listeners often confused his music with that of Kwesi Arthur due to similarities in their vocal tone and style.

Rather than fight the comparisons publicly, Flick said he decided to focus on building his personal brand and ensuring people could easily identify him as the voice behind his songs.

“I decided that whenever I made music, I would shoot a video to project my image so people would know I own the song,” he said.

The strategy, he noted, was aimed at strengthening his visual presence and making sure audiences could associate his face with his music.

In addition to consistently releasing music videos, Flick said he also made a conscious effort to be visible in the media space.

“I was regular with interviews and that was strategic,” he revealed.

According to the rapper, appearing frequently in interviews helped audiences understand his personality, story and artistic direction, gradually separating his identity from early comparisons.

Flick admitted that although he noticed the similarities people pointed out between his sound and that of Kwesi Arthur, he focused on developing his own musical direction instead of trying to directly respond to the conversation.

“I worked on my sound,” he added.

Over time, the strategy paid off as the perception that his music belonged to someone else began to fade.

Today, Kweku Flick has carved out his own space in Ghana’s music scene, with a distinct identity that continues to grow beyond the comparisons that once followed him at the start of his career.
