Ghanaian rapper Kweku Flick has revealed that his passion for music once landed him in serious trouble at school, leading to his indefinite suspension from a seminary senior high school.

Speaking on The Delay Show hosted by Deloris Frimpong Manso, the “Money” hitmaker opened up about how his growing love for secular music conflicted with the strict environment of St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School where he began his secondary education.

According to the rapper, his interest in music started at home and was largely influenced by his eldest brother.

“I am from a family of five and I got inspiration from my eldest brother because he was doing music,” he said.

However, things became complicated when his musical activities began attracting other students.

Flick explained that he often visited the studio after school hours, but many of his colleagues followed him there. At times, they recorded videos of their studio sessions while still dressed in their school uniforms something that eventually caught the attention of school authorities.

“Whenever I went to the studio, colleague students followed me there. We would be in school uniforms taking videos from our moments and that sparked issues,” he said.

By the time he was almost in his second year, the situation had escalated. The school administration suspended him indefinitely.

According to him, the decision came after authorities indicated that he had previously signed a behavioural bond over similar issues.

“This was when I was almost in my second year. I was suspended indefinitely,” he revealed.

After waiting two months without any decision to lift the suspension, Flick and his family decided he had no choice but to continue his education elsewhere.

His parents were unhappy about the development and even visited the school to seek clarification.

“They told my parents I had signed a bond earlier over my behaviour but since the behaviour continued, they had to suspend me,” he explained.

Despite the disciplinary action, the rapper maintained that he did not skip school to pursue music.

“I was a day student and whenever I went to the studio, I made sure I had closed from school,” he added.

Following the incident, Flick transferred to Tweneboah Kodua Senior High School but could not stay long due to the cold weather in Kumawu.

He later moved to Assemblies of God Senior High School where he eventually completed his secondary education and sat for the WASSCE in the 2018/2019 academic year.

The rapper also revealed that while his mother was not particularly supportive of his music career at the time, his late father stood firmly behind his ambitions.

Interestingly, it was during his time at Assemblies of God Senior High School that his music career began gaining attention after he released his breakthrough single “Money.”

“When I was at Assemblies of God Senior High, I had released ‘Money’ and it was a banger,” he said.

Today, the same passion that once got him suspended from school has become the foundation of his music career.
