Young lady, if you want peace, if you want to avoid tumult and controversy then keep your private lives PRIVATE. Keep a minimum online presence. We live in an age where people are obsessed with their online image and presence- THIS IS ABNORMAL AND UNHEALTHY. It is so very easy to create a fake online persona or image by exaggerating or falsifying our achievements. RATHER FOCUS ON QUIETLY BUILDING REAL ACHIEVEMENTS- REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS TO REAL SUCCESS AND GREATNESS IN THIS WORLD. I am old enough to be your parents, and I am speaking from my own experiences.
Newlyweds should remember that the first 10 years of marriage are by far the toughest for most couples and if they want to make it, they will need to be very focused on adjusting to each other, keeping out a lot of "noise" and BUILDING AN IDENTITY AS A COUPLE. THIS IS WHY IT IS SOMETIMES ADVISABLE TO LIVE SOME DISTANCE AWAY OR RESTRICT CONTACT WITH RELATIVES WITH A TENDENCY TO INTERFERE WITH THE LIVES OF BOTH YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE.AFTER MARRIAGE YOUR ABSOLUTE PRIORITY ARE YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE AND THE ONLY THIRD PERSONALITY THAT MUST BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IS THE GOD OF HEAVEN. Give respect where it is due- parents must always be held in honour but they can never take first place in your marriage - your spouse must always come first.
FROM THE WORD GO HAVE THE MINDSET THAT MARRIAGE IS FOR LIFE. Marriage is best described as a bumpy marathon journey whose rewards grow exponentially as a couple persevere and refuse to be distracted and help SUPPORT each other emotionally, spiritually etc. The rewards of persevering in the marriage union and investing the time and effort are AMAZING: a growing deep companionship which eventually replaces the hot physical “love”, increasing contentment and friendship and peace. Couples that are united tend to improve their financial wellbeing with time.
ADJUSTING TO ONE ANOTHER: This is the painful part because we are all by nature very self-centred (some people more so than others depending on their upbring and I suppose their genes). Successful marriages require two people from often very different backgrounds and different temperaments learning to adjust to each other in a healthy way, learning to be considerate and empathic towards their new spouse, learning to forgive rather than holding on to grudges, being loyal to each other. A married man can no longer insist on regularly going off with his male friends to his favourite bar or going off to play football, watching his football matches while leaving his wife to deal with daily chores including that of raising children. The same applies to the lady and her premarital social activities including seemingly worthy ones.
HANDLE MONEY WITH CARE: To this day the biggest single cause of marriage break-up is related to money problems. IT IS THEREFORE CRITICALLY IMPORTANT FOR A COUPLE TO SIT DOWN TOGETHER AND BUDGET CAREFULLY, LEARN TO BE FRUGAL OR ECONOMIZE SO THAT THEY CAN START SAVING AND PERHAPS LATER INVEST IN MEANINGFUL ASSETS YEARS DOWN THE ROADS. FNANCIAL DISCIPLINE IS CRITICAL. I have known many very high earning couples break up because they couldn't control their wasteful spending habits (flashy cars, eating out regularly at expensive restaurants, going on expensive holidays to Dubai, Las Vegas and European cities etc- today some are about to retire completely broke and in two cases retirement has been postponed indefinitely because they are penniless)

ABOVE ALL FOCUS ON YOUR VALUES AND BELIEFS. PERHAPS THIS IS THE TME TO REVISIT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR MAKER. The Holy Bible is a wonderful guide FOR THOSE WHO FAITHFULLY AND REVERENTIALLY OBEY THE COMMANDS OF THE LORD. Children will always faithfully copy the behaviour and values modelled before them by their parents. CHILDREN ARE GREAT IMITATORS AND REMEMBER THAT CHILDREN DEVELOP BEST WHEN THEY ARE NURTURED IN A LOVING HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT CREATED BY THE CONSTANT PRESENCE OF BOTH PARENTS IN THE SAME HOME.CHILDREN THUS LEARN VALUES THAT STAY WITH THEM FOR LIFE.
Getting caught up in the internet- who said what and the opinions of others, their flattery, their criticisms, hateful comments can become a very serious distraction- that is “noise”. We all know marriages that collapsed in part because of heavy exposure of the affairs of a couple on social media. GO INGOGNITO AND SURVIVE AND THRIVE.
