No dowry is given for the hand of the man, and there should be no dowry for the hand of the woman. The dowry practice is demeaning to women. Dowry and polygamy are antiquated practices that need to be thrown to the wind.

In times of yore, a few clothes, beads and trinkets signifying an ability to take care of the bride, token money for defraying the expenses incurred by the bridal family in hosting the groom's family on the day and a bottle of schnapps as consideration for the contractual relationship that is entered into between the two families in marriage is all what required. Then there was the akonta sika which was to appease the brother of the bride forgoing his sister.
