  Those dim wits who keep banging on about polygamy being "African" and therefore should be encouraged have no idea what they are talking about.
  Even those situations where a man with children from different "wives" has not entirely abandoned all or some of the children, the ensuing rivalry, strife, ill will, perceived favouritism that accompanies these domestic arrangements can be truly shocking. This sort of chaos, fighting and even plain hatred peaks when the father becomes deceased. Often siblings from that kind of background stop speaking to each other long before the father is buried and this hostility can last a lifetime even spread to the next generation.
  The women caught up in polygamous marriages are often the ones who bear the brunt of the ensuing DYSFUNCTION- they often must raise the kids all by themselves, sometimes with some "allowance " tossed in their direction by the father of their children to help them pay school fees etc. Many of these children grow up in households without the vital constant presence of a father resulting an increased risk of emotional disorders, mental illness, delinquency, drug addiction and low academic achievement. These harsh facts are well documented by thousands of Psychological and sociological studies worldwide. Children who grow up in these potentially very dysfunctional and emotionally deprived environments are known to be at much higher risk of having dysfunctional families themselves later in life- THEY NEVER HAD HEALTHY TWO PARENT FAMILIES MODELLED IN FRONT OF THEM BY THE CONSTANT PRESENCE OF BOTH PARENTS.
