Why are we repeatedly told that the legend passed on 'suddenly" or "after a short illness"? The man had been unwell for quite sometime, and the signs were there for all but the blind to see. People don't spot swollen bellies ...

People don't spot swollen bellies for nothing - think ascites related to heart or liver failure, hepatospleenomehlgally from liver disease, viral infections, parasites, cancers, etc. Serious, even fatal conditions.

At least one person is being frank. First of all, may the legend’s soul rest perfectly in his Maker.

Lumba was obviously sick. His voice and vocal pitch changed. His nails were all dark. For years, he seemed to be battling some kind of organ condition. I am no medical doctor but I can say that given the current strides in HIV treatment, it’s unlikely that was the primary cause of his death, not to say that he had it. It probably was some type of cancer or liver disease.
