Everything in heaven and on earth belongs to God the creator. Nothing belong to us. We are just caretakers of whatever we have now. We will on day leave this world leaving behind all these worldly things just like your friend who is no more in this world. With this on our minds, there no need to make shortcut, cheat or rob a fellow to have properties or to enjoy in life.
I do not believe it is the spirit of your friend behind these calamities. It could be God Himself who is punishing you in His own way. God says, ''I am the father of the fatherless''
My candid advice to you as a brother is that, repent quickly now, accept Jesus Christ and secure your salvation. Give everything that belongs to your friend to his wife and children but do not withhold any part of it. Worldly smartness is stupidity but the real smartness is to fear God and do the right thing under the sun and moon. We are all at the mercy of God our creator. But He says He will be merciful to those who are merciful. Being merciful simply means to be truthful and compassionate to others including the wife and children left behind by your friend.
This advice goes to all of us. Take this advice and I believe the Lord will be merciful to you then you will have your peace.
May the Lord bless you as you do this.
