Only in Ghana—or perhaps elsewhere in Africa—does someone pass away, and weeks later, we gather to celebrate their "one-week" memorial. It’s a striking example of how we cling to traditions that often drain time, money, and resources. No wonder there's a lingering attraction to authoritarianism—we're so used to being told what to do, even down to what to wear to an event. And if we’re not being dictated to, we’re dictating to others, all under the guise of "dress codes." Pure backwardness -- no wonder we are being referred to as shthole!
