In days of God's prophets, when God wanted to destroy a nation or a community and He revealed to his prophet, the prophet pleaded on behalf of the nation or his people. Moses pleaded on behalf of Israel on many occasions in the wilderness especially when the people made a golden calf and worshipped as their god. God told Moses that let me destroy your people and I would make you a great nation. If Moses was greedy like what we are witnessing today, he would have agreed to that suggestion but he said no God you had used your mighty arm to deliver your own people from Egypt. God rescind his decision to destroy Israelis. Same can be said of prophets like Joshua, Elija, Jona, Jeremiah etc all pleaded on behalf of the people and God listened to them and stopped the punishment He wanted to bring on the people. These days the prophets we have are completely different from the prophets of old and I see them as forecasters.
