  Mother Language is a doble edge sword. It is an important vehicle for inducting children into reading and general education. On the other hand when teachers are posted to ethnic areas where they do not speak the Mother Language, they actually retard the entry of children into a life of reading. Finally, we should change the term 'Mother Language' to First Language (s). Ghanaians are veering towards cosmopolitanism and detribalism.
