I am not slagging off younger folk because I know literally dozens and dozens who are doing very well in diverse ways, who are disciplined and not at all self-absorbed or narcissitic.The reality however is that in this era of Internet and pervasive social media a new generation in their teens to perhaps even early forties have become rather obsessed with themselves. Many belonging to this generation are absolutely certain that they are wiser,smarter than older folk, including their parents because they are more tech savvy and very connected via social media. Everything is always about themselves,how they feel about this or that thing or that situation.They generally hold very strong opinions about every issue (some of which are admittedly are praiseworthy) including those about life which they clearly have little or no experience about.For many in this age and social catergory it never ever enters their head that they could be sincerely wrong in their beliefs ,their stand and their opinions- and that is the frightening part! There is nothing worse than watching helplessly while a young person you care very much for chooses to follow a path that will inevitably lead to pain and even loss.
There are actually folk in their mid twenties to early thirties who have written books or attempted to write books about haw to sustain a marriage and how to raise your kids even though their oldest child was less than 6 years old.It is one thing to write articles about trading on the stock market, write masterful articles on some some specialist area in IT or write reviews about Tech products and another thing to attempt to write on topics that demand considerable life experience.
I had a much younger relative of my spouse setting up a web site about how to avoid burn out,how to focus on yourself and if necessary cut out family so that you can focus on "SELF-FULFILLMENT"!This young person is very articulate but one couldn't help noticing that their last 3 or 4 relationships collapsed before they even got to the marriage stage- I suspect that their prospective spouse took fright and very wisely decided to run for their lives.
With the arrival of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the mainstream this will take this dangerous trend to a whole new level.AI now makes it possible to craft and even more convincing image story about ousrselve or others on line which may bear little or no resemblance to reality.
For example AI now makes it possible to make 100% realistic looking fake videos about ourselves a others- THIS IS WHY MANY GOVERNENTS IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD ARE SCRAMBLING TO ENACT LAWS THAT WILL RESULT IN THE REGULATION OF THIS NEW GROUND BREAKING TECHNOLOGY WHICH HAS AMAZING POTENTIAL FOR GREAT GOOD AND ALAS FOR GREAT EVIL.I DIGRESS BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT.
