  Wise words indeed. Part of the problem we have today is the way we have adopted the Western way of glamourising and glorifying youth even within the church. And sometimes parents ,particularly those with close links to the church are the worst offenders.
  One Church over two decades ago was obsessed with their youth. Over a very short period of time they replaced anybody seemingly over the age of 35 years no matter how skilled or experienced. This was often carried out by subtle pressure or they were simply told that their tenure was up. Apparently this was aimed at encouraging the youth to get more involved and to prevent "old-timers" hogging the show. They even replaced the Counselling Team of very experienced men and women with individuals with relatively little life experience or maturity. It was not long before various problems broke out in the Church. First one of the musicians got sexually involved with another church member's fiancée and the whole thing blew up in their face. Also older members started to stream out of the church which prompted one jubilant young "elder" describing this as an "answer to prayer" to remove "opposers" and .
  To cut a long story short that church within a decade fragmented as a result of serial scandals involving the mishandling of finances, sexual misconduct and power players amongst a few egocentric individuals resulting in deep schisms.
  The Holy Scriptures have a lot to say about showing respect and honor to our parents . We are also admonished and encouraged to show respect to older Men and women.
  THE WORLD OUTSIDE THE CHURCH PARTICULALRLY IN THE WEST EQUATES YOUTH WITH SMARTNESS AND AGE WITH DULLNESS AND BACKWARDNESS. YOUTH IS GLORIFIED AND AGE DENIGRATED AND ALAS THE SAME ATTITUDE HAS CREPT INTO THE CHURCH OFTEN WITH THE CONNIVANCE OF SELF-SERVING INDIVIDUALS IN POSITIONS OF AUTHORITY. The youth for sure can in a spirit of humility learn from older folk in their community and within the body of Christ. Pride always goes before a fall.
