  My girl, your father is not jealous, neither is he being overprotective. To the best of my view, he just doesn't want to see his daughter in a toxic marriage. He is a man and verifies the responsible nature of the prospective guy. He is at the same time scared of you having the idea you currently carry in your mind and so found it difficult to tell you. However, you have to also be firm when taking decisions on the relationship issues. The one thing that you must bear in mind is that if things turn sow, you are the ultimate person that will bear the consequences of your actions, not your father. Maturity comes in to play here. It will pain him if things turn bad for you in the long run.

If you listen to your father, you will never get married. In Africa/Ghana, there is too much opposition from some parents/family members when it comes to marriage. As a result, some children experience late marriage or no marriage. It's time to fast/pray and let Almighty God fight this battle for you. Have you heard of spiritual marriage? In some families, parents have exchanged their children's star/destiny so they cannot marry. This explains why so many men/women have children out of wedlock and never marry. Madam, please, google on these topics to get more info.
  What I've noticed about white people is that, they start dating in their 20's and marry early in life. There are times and seasons that we must follow. Women also have an expiry date.
