  This is why making sure we have the right values and beliefs about the most important issues in life is so critically important. This in turn influences our character and at the end of the day it is all about character. Why do we want to marry somebody? Is it because of their good looks, their wealth or money, fame or popularity ,connections or because they have a foreign passport making it easy to move abroad? If any of the above is our main reason for being attracted to somebody we want to marry then we could end up in really big trouble during the marriage journey. All those things mentioned above are good and are a bonus if the more important factors listed below are first considered.
  On the other hand if we cherish a good natured, stable and godly character first and foremost then we will significantly improve or enhance our chance of having a great marriage.
  On the other hand are we attracted to our future spouse because he or she is honest, considerate, unselfish, caring, not prone to bad temper, hardworking, gentle, ambitious, truthful ,trustworthy and forgiving? ONE WORD SUMS THESE CHARATER TRAITS- IT IS CALLED GODLINESS. A marriage where both partners possess most of these qualities will be one that is built on a solid or firm foundation. Such a marriage will grow and develop and both partners will discover contentment as the marriage matures.
  And by the way I hate to say this : teaching Sunday school, singing in a choir ,even mounting on the pulpit to preach on a Sunday, being the son or daughter of the pastor or being the pastor are not a guarantee that they will turn out to be a good husband or wife.IT IS ALL ABOUT CHARACTER.
  WE MUST REMEMBER THAT WE CANNOT MAKE RIGHT CHOICES ABOUT THE IMPORTANT ISSUES OF LIFE INCLUDING MARRIAGE IF WE OURSELVES LACK THESE SOLID VALUES. As the Holy Scriptures attest: Proverbs Chapter 9 verse 10 (Living Bible) For the reverence and fear of God are basic to all wisdom. Knowing God results in every other kind of understanding. Reverence and Fear of the Lord and a respect for his precepts is a tried and tested and very good starting point for anybody seeking direction in their life.
