  Why? Because that's where you will find evidence of cheating and break up with them. Happened to so many people. Why are you in a relationship if you want to hide stuff and cheat? Why don't you rather indicate that you are not ready for commitment? Why don't you save yourself and other parties from headache and heartache? Only selfish and self-centred liars without regard for the feelings of others will have issues with their partner going through their phone. In every relationship, there must be transparency and honesty regardless of one's sex. Until you have been cheated on, you will never understand the pain of loving someone and finding out that they were lying to you. Go through your partner's phone, even if it hurts, you will heal with time. In the long term, you will realise that you saved yourself from a man or woman whore. You kids deserve a parent who doesn't cheat! Walahi!
