  I don't know whether or not this is the case with this gentleman but it is a well recognised fact that unprotected anal sex (anal canal is teeming with dangeous bacteria because of the waste material sitting there waiting to be got rid off) can predispose some people to urinary tract infections and anybody who has recurrent urinary tract infections (Recurrent UTI) over time is at risk of suffereing from kidney infections and potentially kidney failure.
  
  Please note that by far the vast majority of cases of urinary tract infections have nothing whatsoever to do with anal sex.
  Reduced immunity (and there are dozens and dozens of causes of reduced immunity in the human body )due to other illnesses, prolonged stress,malnutition ,urinary tract anatomical or physiological abnormalities are by far the commonest causes of recurrent UTI.
