Pete Edochie might be right but why is it that Nigerian Musicians since the 70s has more worldwide acclaim than Ghanaian Musicians.
All these people he mentioned if you can notice exists just post-independence when other African countries were just starting too discover themselves.
Yes, highlife was the foundation of most of the well known African Musicians from Congolese Makusa to Malian ejire. Because Kwame Nkrumah promoted it as part of the liberation of African struggles.
By the 70s and 80s Ghanaians Musicians have fiddled out of the scene. Nigerian Musicians such as Fela and Sonny Okusun became more well known.
Yousouf Ndour from Senegal, Salifn Keita. Kofi Olomide of Congo all ended up dominating. Ghana ian Musicians have vanished out of the scene alltogether.
Today 20 Nigerian Musicians globally will be mentioned before you hear of any Ghanaian Musician. Nigerians Musicians such as Burna Boy are selling out 20,000 Arenas.
Our Stonebwoy tries to be a Jamaican and what he does is no different from what u and coming Jamaiacan Artists do. Shatta Wale is good at insulting everyone on Social Media when he is highly stoned on weed. Kofi Kinaata has to beg for collaboration with Nigerian Artists to have some international audience.
The only Ghanaian Artist worth any potential on the international scene is someone like Wiyaala.
The problem with Ghana is that we like focus too much on past glories. Life and people have moved on. Lets learn from the success of modern day Musicians like the Nigerians and lets see how they have suceeded on the international stage.
I understand Shatta Bundle is now into music. Maybe he is our rising star and hope for the future.
Adios Ghana!

There we go! You are very delusional and this is the issue with most of you guys. We Ghs admit that we are not doing well and keep bashing and holding our corrupt leaders accountable, unlike the land of COMEDIANS and the loud mouth yet cowards aka Nigeria. We GHs are mad at our current predicament and we openly say it. We have a PROUD history and we got every right to dwell on our History. What do you mean about Post and Pre Independence? Even great Fela was influenced by Highlife Let it make sense. This is coming from your own guy, live and learn and halt that stupid arrogance and idiocracy.

Look, I'm a Ghanaian born bred and buttered and saying it as it is. You can say whatever you want. The inability to retrospect and take effective actions for the future is one weakness of our country. The inability to take criticism and dwell on past glories is what allows opportunities to pass us by.
Yes, of course that is exactly what I said highlife was the basis and foundation of most of today's world acclaimed African musicians. But Kwame Nkrumah promoted it as part of the African Liberation movement.
Yes, Fela started off with High Life, innovated and produced his own brand of Afro-Beat which today has taken the world by storm promoted by Nigerian Musicians.
Our best Artists Sarkodie, Black Sheriff, Kofi Kinaata etc etc has to beg for collaboration with Nigerain Artists so they can appear on their labels for recognition. I travel worldwide US, Caribbean, Pacific , Latin America and its Nigerian Musicians promoting Africa not Ghanaians.
Name the top African Musicians. 15-20 will be named Niegrians before a Ghanaians is named.
But Ghanaians so myopic as we are instead of seeing value from criticism to change for the better we rather see it as insult.
In terms of the $Dollar value how much do Ghanaian Musicians earn per show internationally. The most our tope artists will earn on a good payday is $20,000 per show. Burna Boy will not get out of bed for less than $2.5m per show, Davido for not less than $1m. Yes, take it to the bank. The other day Stonebwoy was complaining that Nigerian Promoters/DJs don't play Ghanaian Musicians. Its not the Promoters/DJs its the market. Why don't they levy the same complaint against American, British or European Promoters, FM Statins and DJs. Its the audience and the market that demands. The interaction between demand and supply which leads to $$ in your bank account. If your music does not meet the standard of the average listener to tune in to that FM station nobody will play it.
Our Musicians in Ghana is like the one-eyed man in the land of the blind. We adore them but internationally outside of the borders of Ghana they operate in the land of the 2, 3 eye-men. Nobody recognises them.
Past glories is good for historical records but does not pay the Bills.
Yes, Ghana has the potentials to compete with the best but its Musicians, Artists and Producers need to understand that the market out there does not care about your historical records. Leave that for the academics and classroom teachers. They only care about $US in your bank accounts.
Until we learn and study how the Nigerians do it our Artists will continue to beg the Nigerians for a little room to rent on their Programmes, because they are the landlords of the industry. That is what the Ghanaian Industry need to do learn how tobecome Landlords instead of tenants.
The comment on Shatta Bundle was just to make light comedy of a serious issue. Even the Nigerians take Shatta Bundle more serious than Ghanaians. When was any Artists given a red-carpet and a 10 man heavily Armed Guards in Ghana. Shatta Bundle gets that in Nigeria.
For those who have ears let them hear!

Music is dynamic, You can say whatever you want about Stonebwoy, he is doing great and has the international appeal whether you like it or not. Our music has metamorphosed and therefore our highlife has given way to our Hiplife, our dancehall and
our Afro. Nothing wrong with that. Music is not static.

Nigerians copy and adapt. Just like abedi Pele learnt from his older brothers and adapted. Just like Michael Jordan learnt from his older brothers and adapted. Ghanaians will tend to create something and sit in it with nationalistic pride. A nigerian will come and embrace it because we open our doors to them. They will take it and adapt it to their cuktur÷ and sell it globally. Hustle mentality look at their population you have to thi k out the box and adapt to make it. iys the dame with every nation that has an abundant population....China, india,America, brasil, england.....you will realise that these countries hardly create anything. they jump on other' creations and take it further but if you didn't know better or do your research you would think they were rhe original creators.
