Madam it all depends on how you go about it.For example it is daft or foolish to attempt to seek attention by getting involved in scandilous publicity ( e.g displaying one's self almost naked). Doing so in a society that is still very conservative in its taste will backfire very badly. Doing so could drive away permanently some of an artist's most loyal fans thereby resulting in a loss of income.SMART MUSICIANS WILL DO EVERYTHING TO BROADEN THEIR PUBLIC APPEAL.
We can see the same principle at work in the film industry. Films that are rated "Adult" or hardcore often seriously underperfom those that deemed safe for "family viewing". Godd "family" rated films will always outsell the adult or hardcore variety and they stay around for much much longer.
