Marriage works best between a man and woman who both believe with all their heart that it is a long-term commitment, involves hard work and a lot of self-sacrifice and unselfish giving.
Marriage works best when both sides hold rock solid values and have and look for character traits that greatly increase the chance of marriage success .
Marriage survives and prospers when each side believes in being 100% faithful and committed to their spouse ( so flirtations or close friendship with any other unrelated member of the opposite sex because it can lead to adultery). In growing marriages a husband and wife become each other's best friend - that's right!
Character traits such as honesty, gentleness, being hardworking, truthfulness, being respectful and showing consideration for your spouse greatly enhance the marriage experience while selfishness, habitual lying, laziness, indiscipline, lack of ambition and habitual uncleanliness are can sink any marriage . Almost all of these godly traits can be acquired long before marriage.
There is no point looking for these values or traits in a potential spouse if you yourselve do not have them . If you are deficient in these good values your behaviour during marriage would eventually collapse the marriage.
