Marriage is not for the faint-hearted or frivolous.IT IS HARD WORK ALL THE WAY AND THEN THE REWARDS CAN BE AMAZING.
Dating is fun, it is all about expensive perfume ,gifts ,flowers, eating at posh restaurants and champaign. This can continue into the Honeymoon Period ( note: one moon cycle only lasts 28 days HONEY MOON).
And then after all that fun comes the serious part when both parties after tying the knot have to focus solely on each other, learn to cope with each other FOR LIFE. Marriage is associated with bouts of irritation and ill-temper, discovering and learning to cope with annoying personal habits (e.g forgetting to flush the toilet or leaving dirty smelly socks and underwear all over the place), learning not to insist on our way, being considerate ,gentle and kind to each other, being 100% faithful in the marriage, being respectful to each other.
Good marriages GROW AND STRENGHEN OVER THE YEARS .Good marriages also thrive because both partners learn together to build protective boundaries and hedges around their marriage by keeping out intruders ( as a married man or woman you cannot safely have friends of the opposite sex without risking something deeper developing-it is just the way men and women are made period- it doesn't take much for a "chemistry to develop" resulting in adultery. Let me emphasize this point: The Holy Scriptures encourages as to resist sin and temptation but when it comes to sexual sin the Holy Scriptures actually strongly instruct us to FLEE. Don't try to fight it because you can't win, just run for your life.
Secondly don't allow your extended family (parents siblings cousins uncles ,aunts etc) as well as friends to participate or have in your marriage. You can benefit from the counsel of older relatives and friends but they must not interfere in your marriage. Wherever possible try to set up home alonewith your spouse soon after marriage and if necessary geographically away from extended family- most families are more harm than good. Some families can be very supportive but even this can lead to confusion about where our loyalties lie, Sadly some relatives and friends can weaken
and harm health of your marriage. YOUR LOYALTY IS FIRST AND FOREMOST TO EACH OTHER NOT TO YOUR EXTENDED FAMILY, FRIENDS OR WORKPLACE/EMPLOYERS.

HOWEVER THIS BRIEF IS FOR AN IDEAL WORLD SETTING MY FRIEND. these rules where set by God universe if MAN can say celibate faithful all thru life until MARRIAGE. now in this current world, people begin their fornication behaviour very early. as early as twelve yrs....by eighteen most have been with over ten partners on average. these 'events' are 'programs' that are recorded in the subconscious. cultural and others societal, greed etc factors norms come to play prior to marriage. e.g a woman may 'scheme' ways and means (do you remember odartey lamptey) to marry in order to gain financial etc wealth, property for her family etc. its now a wicked world. if you subscribe to the 'dove' out look on life, the wolves lions, hawks will devour you. people are extremely cunning now. so yes maintain 'a safe distance', but at a minimum, LISTEN TO PEOPLE they may mean well. love is TRULY BLIND. these people may be your eyes and ears for your own safety. there are spouses who DELIBERATELY RING FENCE their partners via narcissism and take everything. the ring fence genuinely cannot assist anybody in their family or friend cycles. remember these people were there helping, assisting etc b4 you the spouse showed up. you can't say one owes nobody nothing. thats naive. we all owe somebody 'something'....as small as THANK YOU. again remember odartey lamptey; he confesses his family and friends warned him BEFORE MARRIAGE ie during the courtship days. they warned him severally. he even cut ties with some of his friends and family. twenty three years down the line, who was proved right. the very people you thought were interfering where your SAVIOURS. In DATING relationships, people are literally and figuratively blind. you MUST allowing some info from outside cautiously, whether friends, family etc. it may just SAVE you.WE ALL WEAR A MASK IN THESE DATING AND MARRIAGE RELATIONSHIPS. allowing and winnowing info is the best formula to survive this wicked world. A WORD TO THE WISE .....

Generally speaking a couple's marriage is far more likely to survive and thrive if both parties strongly hold the same values. Having a shared strong religious belief that marriage is for life, that sex is best reserved for the marriage bed, that faithfulness is vital for the survival and even well-being of marriage can greatly increase the survivability and contentment within marriage.
It is far more important to look for the following character traits in a future spouse during the dating and courting periods : look for gentleness ,kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness and empathy towards others. Does the person we are dating tend to overlook minor offences or are they the type who hold on to grudges for a long time? Do they show respect towards you especially in the presence of others or do they demean you in public and also tend to be distracted in the presence of the opposite sex (roving eyes)? Do they recognize the importance of being hardworking ,ambitious, disciplined, frugal , believe in careful planning for the future? Particularly avoid individuals with a careless attitude towards money (they usually love spending money but seem unable to earn much of it because they spend spend spend, never save or invest. TRUTHFULNESS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Avoid habitual liars.
ALL THIS ASSUMES THAT WE OURSELVES RE PRACTISING THESE VERY SAME VALUES. Finally it is important to understand that SEX IS AN EXTREMELY POWERFUL "GLUE" (SUPERGLUE) EMOTIONALLY which can bind a man and woman together. This is why it is critically important not to engage in sex before marriage because it can seriously distort your judgement making you blind to serious marriage-killing flaws in your boyfriend or girlfriend long before marriage. Men and women often marry each other because they have a "terrific sex life" only to discover soon after marriage that they have more compatibility with the brick wall outside their home than with their new husband and wife. Why get stuck together with a "pig"?
