Pepsi Hockey League - Week 25 Results

Kingsticks Hammer Veterans

Kingsticks Hockey Club added to the woes of Veterans Hockey Club when they beat them 5-1 in the 25th week Pepsi Hockey league competition over the weekend. The oldmen of Ghana hockey held the young lads to a 1-1 scoreline at the end of the first half after ageless Mante-Akrofi put them on level terms in the 31st minute to cancel captain Dordzi’s penalty stroke conversion in the 11th minute.

The second half was a different story as the young lads kept running at the defense of Veterans. They however had to wait 12 minutes into the second half to take the lead through Paul Adu from a penalty corner. Kingsticks kept probing and in the 59th minute, exciting Elikem Akaba scored a spectacular 3rd for the young men. Samuel Austin sealed the victory with 2 strikes in the 66th and 70th minutes to put a broad smile on the faces of their managers.

Trustees Move to Second Spot on Pepsi League Table

Trustful Trustees showed no mercy on Extinguishers of Fire Service when they mauled them 12-0 in the last game of the day. Trustees, realizing that the Pepsi League has been won already by bitter rivals Exchequers of Bank of Ghana used the match as a preparatory game for the big showdown with the Central Bankers in the finals of the Mobitel knockout competition scheduled for the second week of the New Year. According to Coach Eddie Ayertey, his team would not be content with the runners-up position and neither did they intend to finish the year without a trophy. He reiterated that they would beat the Pepsi league champions in the finals of the knockout competition and set the stage for an exciting champion of champions game to usher in the 2003 hockey season.

The demolishing man for Trustees was talented David ‘Nene’ Chablah who scored a double hatrick. Other scorers were Alfred Armah (3), Emmanuel Nartey (1), Tetteh Haizel (1) and Emmanuel Oblitey (1).

The rest of the day’s scores are:

Citizens – 3 Reformers – 0 (Reformers did not show up)

CEPS - 3 Golden Sticks – 0

Tema Stars – 3 Independence Avenue Stars – 1 (Juvenile)

GAHA Stars – 3 Multi Babies – 2 (Juvenile)
