Workers in Bole petition President against murder of Director of Agriculture

Bole, (N/R) July 6, GNA -- Workers in the Bole district have petitioned President Jerry John Rawlings against the murder of Mr Michael Morris Kpiebaareh, the Bole District Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in Accra.

They appealed to the President to institute an investigation into the incident and take appropriate action to prevent recurrence.

The petition condemned the claim by the alleged murderer, Warrant Officer Ebenezer Quaynor (rtd) of the National Security Council Secretariat that Mr Kpiebaareh was an armed robber.

Representatives of the local Trades Union Congress (TUC), Civil Servants Association, Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) signed the petition.

It said the late Mr Kpeibaareh had worked as the District Director of MOFA in Bole with dedication and his sense of discipline has helped to improve productivity in his department.

"We condemn the murder of this energetic and dynamic officer, while undergoing a training programme at GIMPA to improve upon his performance and we appeal to President Rawlings to institute a probe into the circumstances leading to the shooting incident and appropriate action taken.''

Receiving the petition on behalf of the President, the Bole District Chief Executive Hajia Azara Bukari expressed shock and sadness at the death of the officer, which she said was a blow to the district.

She promised to forward the petition to the President.
