NDC to institute disciplinary action against 2 MPs

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is to institute disciplinary proceedings against Mr Abraham Kofi Asante, Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi West for the manner he resigned from Parliament and Mike Gizo (pictured), MP for Shai-Osudoku for his widely-reported pronouncements on the airwaves.

A statement signed by Dr Josiah Aryeh, General Secretary of the Party said the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) took a serious view of both developments because of the considerable concern among the rank and file of the party and its implications against party discipline and unity.

"FEC is of the view that discipline is paramount to party unity and has, therefore, referred issues raised by the above developments to the disciplinary committee for action," the statement said.

It said the party took note of the concerns of the public, who were determined to ensure that democracy flourishes in the country through the development of strong political institutions.

The statement reminded members of the NDC that under article 39(8)(b) of the party's constitution, individual members may be subjected or may be made subject to party discipline for anti-party conduct or activities likely to embarrass the Party or bring the Party into hatred, ridicule or contempt.

"We call on all members, supporters and well-wishers to remain steadfast, and be assured that the Party prosecutes its cause with unwavering resolve," it said.
