Let us educate Christians to pay premium in instalments- Mensah

Abetifi-Kwahu, April 16, GNA - Ms Susana Mensah, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, has called on the clergy to educate their congregation to pay their health insurance premiums in instalments to assess affordable and quality health care delivery in the country.

She stressed the need to form health committees in the churches where health personnel could be invited to educate the congregation on hypertension and diabetes that were causing most deaths in the country. Ms Mensah made the call when addressing the 34th Kwahu Presbytery Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) at Abetifi-Kwahu at the weekend.

She explained that when the churches organised the payment of premium in instalments properly most Ghanaians could register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The Eastern Deputy Regional Minister; urged the clergy to explain the aims and objectives of the NHIS to their congregations to enable them enhance their health to propagate the gospel to win more souls for Jesus Christ.

Reverend Emmanuel Osafo-Boateng, Kwahu Presbytery Chairperson, speaking on the theme "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations," said most of the congregations were not functioning properly in the remote communities due to lack of trained personnel and logistics such as vehicles, motorbikes and accommodation.

He therefore advised well-endowed districts and philanthropists in the congregations to assist to propagate the gospel in these remote areas such as the Afram Plains and in addition, maintain properties of the church such as structures and school buildings constructed by the early missionaries in the past.

Rev. Osafo-Boateng urged members of the church to educate the youth on its doctrines and morality to reduce immoral activities among them. Mr Felix Nyarku-Pong, Chairman of the Presbyterian Book Depot, presented 2,000 dollars to the Kwahu Presbytery for the training of Catechists in the remote areas.

Akwasiho District and four others were honoured for being the best organized districts among the 14 districts within the Presbytery. Other members who contributed towards the development of the church were also presented with certificates and citation. 16 April 07
