Unemployed remanded for stealing van, but puts up melancholic behaviour

Kade (E/R), Nov. 4, GNA - The Kade Magistrate's Court in the Eastern Region, has remanded a 28-year-old unemployed in police custody, for allegedly stealing a distribution van with registration number ER 1247 Z, property of a herbal medicine dealer.

Eric Afum, whose plea was not taken because he was suspected not to have been in a proper frame of mind, will reappear on November 14. In the court room, the accused person's behaviour was unusual, as he removed his white canvas and intermittently shouted "Jesus" followed with sentences that was not easily comprehended.

While waiting for his turn to enter a plea, among other criminals charged before Mr. Emmanuel Kwaku Frimpong, the Magistrate, Afum who was handcuffed was ordered to be sent out until his case was called. The Prosecution had earlier told the court that on Thursday, October 30, this year, Afum went to the house of complainant, Mr Kwaku Teye, who is the driver of the distribution van loaded with herbal medicine and bought some of the drugs.

Shortly after selling the drug to Afum, Mr. Teye heard the sound of the engine of the started van and subsequently moved from his premises at Nyankumase near Kade. He raised the alarm and with the help of some people, Afum was arrested.
