Stand-up comedian and outspoken supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Derick Kobina Bonney, has urged the party’s communication department to be more proactive in defending the government and countering what he describes as propaganda from the opposition.

In a video shared on his X page on March 9, 2026, the comedian expressed frustration over the communication team’s slow response to commentary from the opposition, particularly from Dennis Miracles Aboagye of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, the party’s communicators have allowed Miracles Aboagye to freely dominate discussions in the media space in ways that attempt to paint the current NDC government in a negative light.

“NDC communication team, stop sleeping, wake up. What is wrong with you guys? Wake up, NDC communication team, wake up. You’ve allowed this Dennis Miracles guy to be going around trying to unpopularize the government,” he said.

The comedian said the NDC party is only fortunate that people are wiser now. He explained that Ghanaians have become more aware of political tricks, and fewer people are falling for the propaganda spread by Miracles Aboagye.

However, he warned that despite this awareness among the public, some people may still believe the narratives being pushed, making it important for the NDC communication team to respond actively and consistently.

DKB further argued that the NPP is desperately searching for a scandal that could damage the reputation of the current administration, and in the absence of such a scandal, they have resorted to raising different issues one after the other in the public space.

He cited discussions around cocoa prices and electricity tariffs as examples of issues he believes are being used to create controversy.

“Because they are so desperate to get a scandal and they are not getting one, they’re just picking one thing after the other. Now, the next thing is ECG tariff was not part of the IMF. When even Kenneth Wright himself said it, and that’s what he’s propagating now,” he noted.

While stressing that he personally intends to challenge what he considers misinformation, DKB said he cannot do it alone and would require the support and active involvement of the NDC communication machinery.

“You should be everywhere on Twitter to check their ways, making sure that nobody propagates any lies against the government, because the JM is doing his best. To me, the country is sweet, and the country is sweet, and it’s paining some people,” DKB noted.

He also called on emerging voices within the party to step forward and take up the responsibility of defending the government in the media space, particularly as some of the party’s well-known communicators now hold official positions and may not be as active as before.

“We used to have Malik Basintale, we used to have Sammy Gyamfi. Now they have appointments, so they are busy. So this is a chance for other people to become the new Malik Basintale and Sammy Gyamfi,” he added.
